HISTORY


  • 1890s Origin: Built to meet the needs of the town’s booming Victorian tourism industry, specifically for Welsh-speaking visitors during the spa boom.
  • Design: Designed by architect Owen Morris Roberts of Porthmadog.
  • Transformation: Used as a church hall until 1922, before transitioning into a, theatre/cinema on 20 July 1923.
  • Wartime Service: Hosted entertainment for the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) during WWI.
  • Distinguished Visitors: Hosted key figures, including David Lloyd George and Emmeline Pankhurst.

  • Modern Era: Saved by the community to operate as a venue for live music, drama, and film



    • PARANORMAL ACTIVITY


    * Apparitions of Soldiers: Associated with the World War One era, when 4,000 men from the Royal Army Medical Corps were billeted in the town and used the hall for entertainment

    * Shadow Figures: Dark shapes are frequently seen in the auditorium and behind the scenes

    * Poltergeist Activity: Reports include loud, unexplained noises, such as banging and whistling, as well as doors closing on their own.
