History of the Mill
This beautiful once operational mill has been present on the grounds since the early 1500’s, although some parts of this historic building dates to the late 1700’s. The Mill was fitted with a fully functional turbine in 1924 and generated power for the town, up until the early 1930’s. The milling continued here into the 1960’s, after which it diversified into the milling of whiting and later glue.
This stunning property over the years has seen many tragedies and heartbreak, which unfortunately contributed to the loss of life for many people. Flooding from the Ceiriog River that runs adjacent to the mill had caused extensive damage to the mill wheel, destroyed parts of the building and caused the loss of several workers lives. An extensive fire also broke out in the nearby cottages constructed for the workers, and all were demolished all that was left was ash.
There have been many documented deaths that have occurred, some from tragic accidents. One being that of a young boy who tragically lost his life from drowning whilst playing up the river, his body was found by the mill and was kept in the mill while they held the inquest at the Hand Hotel. His name was Evan John Evans and has been allegedly seen on the ground floor, and the first flight of stairs
This eerie and foreboding 3 storey building plus the basement and the attic has many places for you to come an investigate, and to attempt to unravel its tainted past.

Visitors and paranormal investigators have reported a variety of unexplained phenomena throughout the historic mill building, which dates back to the 1300s
- Apparitions: Sightings include a young girl wandering the grounds, a tall man in a top hat in the middle floor corridor, a lady with short hair in the attic, and a shadow figure near the outdoor oak tree.
- Disembodied Voices and Sounds: Guests have heard disembodied voices on the third floor, sounds of children singing in the attic, playful footsteps, tapping, knocking, and unexplained banging noises.
- Physical Phenomena: Reports include objects like a doll falling from a shelf when no one was present, headboards sliding down walls, and ghost hunting equipment interacting on command (e.g., REM pods and music boxes).
- Sensory Experiences: Visitors often mention an eerie atmosphere, sudden drops in temperature, strange smells, and a feeling of heaviness or pressure in the dark cellar, sometimes causing investigators to leave the area
